The Wonderfools is a series that may take a little time to get into, especially for viewers unfamiliar with the particular style of Korean television. As with any different storytelling tradition, the acting, expressions, pacing, and way of conveying emotions can feel unfamiliar at first. European series can also differ considerably from American productions, so there is always an element of adjustment when moving between different cultural approaches to storytelling.
Once the series draws you in, however, there is considerably more depth beneath the surface. The Wonderfools explores greed, the desire to escape death, and the lengths people will go to in their pursuit of immortality. At the same time, it has a surprisingly human side, particularly in the way lonely people find one another and gradually form connections and friendships.
There is a lot to discover beneath the more unusual surface, and that human dimension is ultimately what makes the series so enjoyable.
